Just realized my neighborhood composting bin cut my trash by 30% in two months
I started putting kitchen scraps in the community compost drop at the park near 5th street. Problem was I kept forgetting to take it out, but then I set a Sunday night reminder. Has anyone else tried a simple system like that for cutting waste?

Man that Sunday night reminder is genius actually. I started doing something similar but with a whiteboard on my fridge. The thing nobody talks about though is how composting changes your whole grocery shopping habits. Once you start seeing how much food waste you produce you start buying less stuff and using up leftovers way more. I swear my fridge is half empty now compared to before. The real savings come from not buying produce that goes bad before you eat it. Its like the compost bin trains you to be a better shopper without even trying.

Well that's an interesting point about the compost bin changing your shopping habits. I wonder though, does it actually make you more efficient or does it just make you more anxious about waste? I mean, I could see myself overthinking every purchase and maybe not buying enough variety because I'm scared something will go bad. How long did it take before you found that balance where you weren't stressing about it? Because I tried something similar with a meal planning app and I ended up eating the same three dinners all week out of fear of wasting stuff.
