inI finally understood why the old guy at the yard in Tacoma always said 'listen to the steel'.
That bit about learning a language most people hear as noise hits hard. It's like we're surrounded by conversations we don't understand. Makes me want to just stop and listen more.

inUnpopular opinion: people keep calling that new Roman fort in York a 'castle' and it's messing with the timeline.
That fort by the river is clearly Roman layout. Calling it a castle just confuses people about what happened when the army pulled out. It makes the Dark Ages way harder to explain.

inCan we talk about choosing between a rock hammer and a masonry chisel for a stubborn basalt nodule in my yard
My old 4 pound drilling hammer has cracked open more basalt than I can count. That Estwing is a solid choice though, good weight for the swing. I agree with @phoenix79 about a small sledge, the extra mass makes a real difference when you need a solid shock instead of just force. Sometimes you just have to find the right seam and give it one good pop.
