Spent $1,900 on a used Nissan Leaf in 2021 and my power bill went up $53 a month
I bought a 2015 Leaf with 60k miles for $1,900 back in 2021 because I was tired of paying $140 a week in gas for my commute to Tacoma. The car itself has been fine, no big repairs besides tires, and I charge it overnight in my garage off a normal outlet. Here is the part nobody warned me about: my electric bill jumped from around $85 to $138 a month, which is still way less than gas, but it is not the "free fuel" people online keep promising. I also lost about 20 miles of range the second winter, and finding a working fast charger on I-5 south of Olympia is a gamble every time. So the money math worked out for me, but barely, and only because I got the car cheap. What is your actual monthly charging cost, and did yours creep up more than you planned for?
