Switched from carbon offsets to actual local tree planting after 2 years of tracking
I spent $500 on offsets in 2022 and felt good about it, then helped plant 50 pine trees with a group in Vermont last spring and watched my own forest grow. The tree planting gave me a real connection to the result instead of just a digital receipt. Has anyone else moved to hands-on projects after trying the offset route?

Oh, that really speaks to me! It's one thing to get a warm feeling from a transaction and another entirely to drive up there on a Saturday and get your hands in the dirt. I did a similar project with a local watershed group a few years back, and I still drive past those saplings every time I go to the feed store. Watching them get taller and bushier makes all that sore back the next morning feel totally worth it. That physical connection changes how you think about carbon, I think.

@laraho48 the real win is you get to watch your work grow while supporting local ecosystems in a way that actually feels tangible. Plus it beats the heck out of staring at a carbon offset certificate on your wall.
