That 112 degree Tuesday in Phoenix scared me more than any climate report ever has
Two months back I had to walk six blocks in Phoenix at 2pm when it hit 112 degrees, and by block three I genuinely thought I might pass out. Our city opened cooling centers that week for the first time in June, and the ER near me saw heat cases jump to 40 in a single day. I'm not trying to be dramatic here, but stuff like that is exactly why pushing for shade trees, cool roofs, and bus shelters matters right now, not in some far off future. What has your city actually done to deal with heat, and did it work?
