Got my email hacked at a public library in Tucson and learned my lesson

I was writing a newsletter at the Tucson Public Library last summer and logged into my email on their computer. Forgot to sign out and someone sent a phishing link to all 150 of my contacts within 30 minutes. My aunt almost clicked it but called me first to ask if I really needed money for an emergency. Now I never log into anything on shared computers unless I use a temporary password and clear everything after. Have any of you had a similar situation happen at a library or coffee shop?

That one June when everything in my garden just exploded

I remember back in 2019, our community plot in Portland had this crazy two week stretch where it rained just enough and then the sun came out perfect. My tomatoes went from little green balls to ripe in like 10 days, and the squash vines took over half the bed. My neighbor got 47 cucumbers off three plants alone that same week, which is still the best I have ever seen in person. But then the powdery mildew showed up right after, and we had to rip out almost everything by July. Has anyone else had a season that started amazing and then went south that fast?

Tried the 'quiet quitting' approach for 3 months at my call center job in Phoenix

Honestly, I thought working less hard would make my days easier. But after 3 months of just doing the bare minimum, my call stats dropped by 40% and my supervisor started watching me like a hawk. I learned that for me, putting in a little extra effort actually made the day go faster because I was more engaged. Has anyone else found that slacking off backfires in a bigger way than you expected?

Had to choose between a magnetic and a regular barber cape...

I finally had to replace my old cape last month after the snap button just gave out on me. Looked around and saw those magnetic capes everyone's talking about now... figured I'd try one out since I was tired of clients flinching when I snapped the collar closed. First few days with the magnetic one were rough honestly... it kept sliding off on broader guys and I couldn't get it to sit right on the neck. Switched back to a regular snap-button cape after a week and went with a heavy-duty one from a shop over in Memphis. The magnets just didn't have enough grip for the way I work... maybe they work better for stylists who do more comb work but for clipper cuts they kept shifting on me. Anyone else gone back to the old school capes after trying the magnetic ones?

I spent 2 hours on hold with support before I realized I could just log in through an old browser session I had saved on my work laptop from 6 months ago, so has anyone else found a random login still active that saved their skin?

I used to scroll past them but after seeing 12 straight in the last hour I started checking comment counts and they're all just people posting memes instead of talking about actual shows. Has anyone else noticed the quality of threads dropping since those got popular?

Hot take: You don't need to clean your chain after every single ride

Honestly, I see so many posts here about people scrubbing their chains with degreaser every 50 miles like it's a religion. I've been riding the same road bike in Portland for over 2 years now, putting about 3,000 miles a year on it, and I wipe the chain down with a rag maybe once a month. I think all that constant cleaning actually strips the grease out of the roller pins faster, which is where you really need the lube to stay. The real problem isn't dirt on the outside, it's the grime getting forced into the bushings when you over-clean and then slop on fresh lube. Has anyone else noticed their chain lasting longer when they just wipe it and re-lube without the whole soak and scrub routine?

Just got back from a dive near the old pilings at Port Townsend and something felt off

I was doing a routine inspection on the pier foundations around noon last Thursday. Water was murky but I spotted this weird oily sheen near the bottom where the creosote is peeling. Checked my air supply and noticed a slow leak at the regulator hose connection that wasn't there when I went down. Tightened it up but now I'm wondering if the chemical runoff is eating through gear faster than usual. Anyone else notice stuff degrading quicker after working around treated wood lately?

Had to pick between a sunny spot and a shady spot for my indoor ferns and I chose wrong at first

So I got this big Boston fern from my mom last spring and I kept moving it around my apartment in Austin trying to make it happy. I had this bright spot near my south window where my succulents were loving life so I put the fern there. After like 3 weeks the fronds started turning yellow and dropping off everywhere. I was so confused because I thought ferns needed tons of light like everything else. Then my buddy who works at a nursery told me ferns actually want indirect light and a bit more humidity. I moved it to my dark corner in the bathroom where it gets morning light for maybe an hour and it totally bounced back. Now it's putting out new fronds every week and I feel dumb for not realizing that different plants have totally different needs. Has anyone else killed a plant by giving it too much sun?

Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I figured why not. The app promised better habits and less stress. After 3 weeks, I was getting annoying reminders every 2 hours to 'check in with my feelings' and plan my day down to the minute. I started feeling like a failure when I didn't hit their random goals.
