Watching the creek behind my old school go from dead to alive in 4 years, is this normal or did we just get lucky?
I grew up in Reading, PA and the creek behind my middle school was basically a gray ditch until about 2019. Then a local group got a $45,000 grant to plant trees along the banks and stop the farm runoff from coming in. Last month I walked back there and saw minnows and a heron, which I never saw as a kid. So here's the debate: did that one project actually fix it, or was it just a wet stretch of years that made the difference? And if it's the project, why isn't every town doing the same thing, is it just money or is there something else holding it back?
