My French Press shattered on a Tuesday morning at 6am

I was making my usual morning coffee and went to press the plunger down. But the glass carafe just EXPLODED in my hands, sending grounds and hot water all over my kitchen floor. It was a 34 ounce Bodum that I've had for maybe 4 years, so I guess the glass finally gave out. I spent the next 20 minutes cleaning up broken glass and coffee stains off the white cabinets. Now I'm looking at stainless steel French presses because I don't want that to happen again. Has anyone else had a glass carafe just fail on them like that?

lol I read somewhere that thermal shock is what gets those glass carafes, like if the water's too hot or the glass is cold from being washed right before." Stainless steel is definitely the way to go, I switched after a friend's blew up on her too.

Mine exploded while I was still half asleep and I honestly thought I was being attacked for a second. Just standing there in my underwear covered in coffee grounds questioning my life choices. Switched to a stainless steel one from Frieling and it's survived me dropping it twice so far. Guess I'll find out if it can handle a third.
