Tried cheap beans from a grocery store in Portland last week

I always figured expensive single origin was the only way to get good flavor. Picked up a $6 bag of store brand dark roast on a whim and it actually tasted fine. Has anyone else been surprised by budget coffee that held up against the fancy stuff?

Used to be a snob too but yeah cheap stuff surprised me.
