Vent: That $180 omnibus set was a complete paperweight for me

I dropped $180 on a giant omnibus collection at a shop in Austin, thinking I'd finally read the full run. Turns out the binding is SO tight that you basically have to crack the spine to get past page 50, and I refuse to ruin a book that cost me a week of groceries. I tried a reading stand, flattening it with weights, even holding it at weird angles, nothing helps. Has anyone else dealt with modern omnibus bindings being this bad, or did I just get a dud?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I read somewhere that a bunch of these big omnis are being printed with glued spines now instead of sewn, and it's a total gamble. Sounds like you got one of the bad ones, which sucks for that price.
