Was skeptical of variant covers until I saw the 2023 ratio numbers

For years I thought variant covers were just a cash grab for collectors with deep pockets. Then I looked at the actual print run data for a few 2023 books like Amazing Spider-Man #25, where the ratio variants were like 1 per 50 copies. Seeing how scarce those really are and how much the fan community tracks them made me get why people chase them. Has anyone else flipped their opinion on a specific collecting gimmick after digging into the numbers?
