Showerthought: I used to think pocket screws were the best for face frames, but I'm switching back to dowels.

I built two identical maple face frames last month, one with a Kreg jig and one with a simple dowel jig. After a year in a dry house, the pocket screw frame has a tiny gap at one joint you can feel with a fingernail. The doweled one is still tight as a drum. The glue surface on a dowel joint is just bigger and stronger for that kind of stress. Has anyone else seen this happen with seasonal wood movement?

Update: I walked through the old industrial park in Tacoma yesterday and saw they turned the old paint booth building into a craft brewery.

It just made me think about how many shops like ours have moved out of those old city spaces over the last twenty years.

Honestly just saw a 3D model of the Parthenon from 1687 versus now and the difference is insane.

Ngl, seeing the damage from the Venetian bombardment next to the cleaned-up ruins today really shows how much careful restoration has happened over the last few decades, anyone else get surprised by how much a site can change?

Just tried a new way to hold the comb for tight fades

I was working on a skin fade yesterday and kept getting a small line at the transition. My buddy said to try holding the comb flat against the head instead of angled, so I gave it a shot. After about three passes with my Andis Masters, the blend smoothed out way better than before. Has anyone else found a small grip change that fixed a big problem for them?

Question about getting a clean break on a 24 inch tube

I was working on a big vase yesterday and needed to cut a 24 inch tube of cobalt blue glass. Figured I'd score it and tap it like normal, right? Wrong. Spent almost three hours trying to get a clean break without it running or chipping. Tried heating the score line with a small torch, cooling it, everything. Finally got it after my fifth try by using a really light touch on the initial score and warming the whole tube in the garage for an hour first. Anyone have a better method for thick color tubes?
