Got roasted by a tender for my mask clearing technique and now I'm second guessing myself

Last month on a job off the coast of Galveston, my tender told me I waste too much time clearing my mask. I do the full tilt back and blow out method, takes maybe 10 seconds. He said just crack the seal and let a tiny bit of air in, takes 3 seconds. I tried it a few times and honestly it felt weird but it worked. Now I keep switching between both and can't decide. What's your go to method for clearing a mask underwater, do you stick with one way or adapt based on conditions?

Why not stick with what feels right for you?

Used to swear by the full tilt back method cause it's what I learned in my first class. But honestly after watching a buddy clear his mask in like 2 seconds with that tiny crack technique I tried it and never looked back. So yeah I'd say adapt based on what you're doing, if you're deep or moving fast that quick crack is way better.
