My comms cut out at 40 feet and the surface started calling me by the wrong name
Was doing a routine inspection on a pier in San Diego and my hardwire comms crapped out halfway through, so I did the old pull twice and wait, nothing. Surface came back on the line and called me Mike, and I just went with it for like 5 minutes before they figured out they had the wrong diver patched in. Anyone else ever get crossed up on the comms box like that or is it just my luck?
Used to figure that crossed lines were just a thing the old guys joked about, like a diver legend or something. Then we had a near miss on a dam job where the tender patched in the wrong guy and told him to open a valve that wasn't his. Nobody got hurt but it scared the crap out of me. Now I always ask surface to confirm my name and dive number before I move an inch, every single time.
