Rant: Best week underwater vs worst day on the job - can't decide which changed me more
Last summer I had a week in the Gulf off Galveston where everything went right. Visibility was 40 feet, the current was light, and I racked up 18 hours of bottom time on a pipeline inspection that paid $2,800 after taxes. Best part was my drysuit stayed dry the whole time, no leaks. Then two months ago I had a single day in Port Angeles that was a total nightmare. My Kirby Morgan regulator froze up at 60 feet, I had to emergency ascent with my bailout, and the surface crew took 20 minutes to get the boat to me because the anchor line snapped. That day cost me $1,600 in lost gear and I still have a sore shoulder from the rapid ascent. Makes me wonder if the good days are worth the risk when the bad days can go that sideways real quick. Has anyone else had a week that was so good it changed how you see the job, or a day so bad you almost walked away?

Funny how life works like that. You can have a perfect week where nothing goes wrong and it feels like you're winning, then one bad day flips the whole script. It's kind of like how my computer at home runs fine for months until the day I really need it for something important, then it blue screens. The universe has a weird sense of timing. At the end of the day, those good days just make the bad ones sting worse because you know what you're missing.
