The day a supervisor called me out for skipping my pre-dive checklist
Honestly, I used to think pre-dive checks were just time wasters. I'd been diving for 3 years without issue, so I'd skip steps like checking my inflator valve. Then last month off the coast of Corpus Christi, a supervisor watched me suit up and pointed out my inflator was sticking. If he hadn't caught it, I could have shot up too fast. Has anyone else had a close call from getting lazy with their gear?

Three years without an incident isn't that long in diving years, honestly. People get way too dramatic about gear checks when most issues are operator error or just bad luck. If you're suiting up properly and have common sense underwater, a sticking inflator is easily handled without a full checklist.

Ha! Reminds me of the time I forgot my fins and just used my hands the whole dive.
