Appreciation post: I finally started using a proper label maker for client cables

I always just used masking tape and a sharpie for years, thinking it was fine. Then I spent 45 minutes tracing a single network cable in a messy office rack last month. Bought a basic Brother P-touch and now every cable gets a tag with the client name and port number. What's your go-to method for keeping track of cables?

That exact scenario is the worst kind of time sink, honestly. Tracing one cable in a mess can ruin your whole flow for the day. The switch from tape and marker to a real label maker feels like going from guesswork to having an actual system. It seems like a small thing, but it saves so much frustration later when you or someone else has to work on that rack again. Your future self will be thanking you every single time you open that cabinet door.

@miles825 is right, my label maker saved me from a full afternoon of cable tracing last week.
