Just had to pick between a full reimage and a deep malware scrub for a client's infected machine

The client's business laptop was crawling with adware and some weird crypto miner, and they needed it back same day. I chose the reimage because it was faster and more certain, but now they're upset about losing some old QuickBooks files they never backed up. How do you guys handle that 'speed vs data recovery' choice when the clock is ticking?

Ugh, seriously? They're mad about QuickBooks files from who knows when? If it was that important, it would have been backed up somewhere, anywhere. A crypto miner means the whole system is trash, you can't trust any of it. A reimage was the only real fix. They're just looking for someone to blame for their own bad habits.

Calling their system "trash" is a bit harsh. A crypto miner is bad but you can still save important files before a wipe. They might not have known how to back things up properly.
