Appreciation post: the week that 40 yards taught me patience

Last spring in Austin we had a 3 day pour, 40 yards total, and my float crew kept fighting the heat no matter how we timed it. That Friday morning a guy from the 80s showed me his old magnesium trick for the edges and suddenly the whole slab came together in one pass. Anybody else got a veteran move that still saves your day out here?

Pulled that same move last summer on a 60 yard pour in the Hill Country and ended up with a mottled mess because I got too confident. Took me a whole afternoon of grinding and re-pouring to fix what that magnesium trick wouldve saved me in minutes if I had just waited for the right temp. The old timers always make it look easy until you try it yourself and realize youre basically painting with a blowtorch. Now I just nod and say thanks when they hand over tips, then practice on a curb or something small first.
