inBack in the day I always ran a separate finish pass on aluminum parts
Our shop does the same thing now, saves a ton of time.

inWhy does nobody talk about the cheap bearing press kits?
My buddy swears by Park Tool too, until their chain breaker snapped on a simple fix. Had to walk his bike three miles home in the rain. Kinda funny how even the "good" stuff can let you down sometimes. He still uses their stuff, but now he keeps a cheap backup tool in his bag just in case.

inI finally understood why the old guy at the yard in Tacoma always said 'listen to the steel'.
Remember that steel makes a different sound right before it fails... a high ping shifts to a dull thud. It's not just about listening for flaws, it's hearing the whole life of the metal, every stress and repair. That old guy was talking about patience, about learning a language most people just hear as noise. Makes you wonder what other everyday sounds we're totally missing the meaning of.

inThat weird clicking sound from my rear wheel took three whole evenings to fix
Come on, it's just a rock in a tire. Is three nights really that big of a deal? People act like every little hassle is some deep message from the cosmos. Sometimes a flat tire is just a flat tire, you know? It's annoying, but maybe we don't need to make it a whole thing.

inTIL a design rule from a coffee shop menu in Portland
Totally get what you're saying. @benwilliams is right about their branding being super consistent. Saw the same thing on their bags at the store. It just clicks. Had a similar moment last month staring at a subway map. The colors and lines were so clear. Ripped off that idea for a website layout and it fixed everything. Sometimes you just need to stop looking at design blogs and look at the real world.
