Finally tried a magnesium float on a garage floor after years with just a steel one
I did a two car garage last week and used a magnesium float on half and my old steel one on the other half just to see. The difference in the finish was clear. The magnesium side closed up way faster, maybe 20 minutes sooner, and had a much smoother look without that steel sheen. It felt like it pulled less water to the top too. I'm switching for my flatwork from now on. What's your go-to float for big interior slabs like that?

Nice! I had the same exact experience when I finally made the switch.

Yeah that "closed up way faster" thing is the real game changer. It's like when you finally get the right tool for any job and realize you've been making it harder on yourself for years. I see it with my dad trying to use a butter knife as a screwdriver. The right tool just works with the material instead of fighting it.

Man, that butter knife thing hits home... my wife used a steak knife to open a paint can last month. Took her ten minutes of prying and she still bent the blade. I dug out the actual paint key from the garage and it popped right off in two seconds.
