My uncle's float advice sounded dumb but he was spot on
Been doing flatwork for 5 years, mostly driveways and patios in Tucson. My uncle watched me bull floating a slab last month and said I was working the cream too much, that I needed to let it sit longer before floating. I ignored him thinking he was just old school, but that driveway had a dusty, powdery surface that kept peeling when I tried to finish it. I redid a small pad the next day using his timing, waited about 25 extra minutes before the first float, and the surface came out smooth with no dust at all. Has anyone else found that floating too early causes that chalky look weeks later, or was it just a mix issue that day?
