Overheard a foreman talking about pump lines at lunch, kinda shook me
He was saying a crew on the 405 project in Orange County skipped the pressure test to save time and the line burst mid-pour, took out two guys and half the slab before anyone could kill the pump. Has anyone else seen corners cut like this on bigger jobs, or is it just me who thinks that's insane?

Hold on before you go full panic mode. Those pressure tests are expensive and time consuming, and on a job that big the crew probably knew the line was fine from experience. Yeah the test is the safe play but the foreman was just trying to keep the schedule moving, that's how these massive projects ever get done. And half the slab getting taken out sounds like an insurance claim and a re-pour, not a total disaster, the guys got banged up but nobody died. If every crew stopped to test every single line we'd never finish anything on time, sometimes you gotta trust the guys on the ground. Honestly I bet half the folks clutching pearls here have skipped a step or two when the deadline was breathing down their neck.
