Grain elevator camera blind spot, I picked the wrong spot to hide

Last month I was hauling corn to a small elevator outside of Des Moines and had to pick between backing into the bay with the cracked concrete or the one with the dead camera that the yard guy swore was monitored. I chose the cracked concrete one thinking it was safer for my tires, but the forklift driver clipped my fender because he couldn't see me at all. Anyone else had to make a call like that on a job site and end up second guessing their gut?

Did you check if that dead camera was actually dead before you backed in? I read a safety bulletin once that said sites often leave broken cameras up just to keep drivers on edge. End of the day, you made a call with what you had, and that forklift driver should have honked or waved before moving in blind.
