I was at a town hall in Boise when a man tried to push the 'crisis actor' theory about a local fire.
It was last fall, during a meeting about the new fire safety rules. A man stood up and said the family who lost their home were paid actors, part of a plot to get grant money. I was sitting right behind the fire chief, and I saw his face just drop. I raised my hand and said, 'I know that family. Their kid goes to school with mine. I helped drop off clothes for them.' I told the man to his face that his idea was not just wrong, it was cruel to people who had lost everything. The room got quiet, and he sat down without another word. It showed me how these ideas aren't just online talk, they hurt real people in real places. Has anyone else had to shut down a wild claim in a public setting like that?
