Half the guys at my shop swear by ATF in the power steering, other half says it'll kill the pump - I tried it on a 98 Civic and the whine got quieter but the pump started leaking a week later, what gives?

My buddy Lou ran ATF in his 03 Civic for about 18 months and the steering got real heavy on a cold morning. He pulled into my driveway with fluid all over the ground and a pump that sounded like a dying cat. Ended up costing him more in labor than just buying the Honda stuff upfront would have.

Found out my shop's main server was running on a 10-year-old power supply this whole time

Man, that is rough. Did your buddy ever figure out if the PSU was actually a fake or just a super cheap model from a no-name brand? I ask because I've seen those "500 watt" units on Amazon that are basically ticking time bombs with those little rattly fans. It makes you wonder why people don't just spend the extra 30 bucks on a decent Corsair or EVGA unit when they're building a server full of hard drives. Or was he just trying to save every penny and didn't think it would matter? Sounds like a hard lesson learned the worst way possible.

Hit 50,000 pounds of broken glass recycled from my shop last month

Not trying to be difficult, but do you know how much 50k pounds actually is? I work with heavy materials all the time and that's a lot even for glass. My buddy @rayy83 nailed it though - tracking it month to month makes it real. If that's over a few years, sure it's less wild, but even then that's like dumping 10 cars worth of glass into a landfill. Either way, recycling that much beats the alternative.

Heard two freelancers arguing about fixed price vs hourly at a co-working space in Denver last week

Man that $2k to $5k story hits way too close to home. Had a client once who thought "just add a blog section" meant like an hour of work when really it was a whole new content system. Fixed price can feel great upfront but man does it bite you later when you're not great at guessing the future.
