My cousin's 20 minute rant about jet contrails got me second guessing everything

So last weekend at a family cookout in Akron, my cousin Mike who normally never talks about this stuff just unloaded on me. He was pointing up at the sky saying those trails aren't water vapor, he thinks they're spraying something and he had all these numbers about flight paths and how many planes go over our county per day. I laughed it off at first but then he showed me a map on his phone with like 40 flights crisscrossing right above us. Now I'm sitting here watching the sky during my lunch break and honestly I can't stop counting them. I don't know if I buy the whole thing but the part about why some trails spread out and some stay thin, he had a pretty logical reason for that. Has anyone else had a family member drop something like this on them and make you feel kind of dumb for never noticing the patterns before?
