Paid $180 for a metal detector, found a septic tank lid in my own yard
Bought a used Garrett Ace 250 off Facebook Marketplace last month, mostly out of boredom. Spent three weekends sweeping my backyard and the only solid hit was a rusty cast iron lid about four inches down. Turns out the previous owner buried an old septic tank right under where I planned to build a shed. The detector basically saved me from a $2,000 collapse, so that was a lucky $180. Has anyone else had a hobby purchase accidentally expose a hidden property issue?
