Spent 6 hours chasing a ghost short on an MRL yesterday

6 hours for a door lock contact? I'd say that ghost owes you some overtime pay.

Took me 6 months to realize I was rinsing my rice wrong

My buddy Dave used to cook rice like he was making concrete. He'd just throw it in a pot with some water and hope for the best. One time he made a batch so sticky we used it as poster putty to hang up a calendar. I told him about the rinsing thing and now he swears he's a rice master. He even bought one of those fancy Japanese rice cookers, but I still see him eyeballing the water level like it's a science experiment.

That tip about wetting the subgrade before pouring saved my hide today

Well now, I've got to respectfully disagree with that tip. Wetting the subgrade in Phoenix heat is asking for trouble if you ask me. I poured a patio in Mesa last July and made that exact mistake, ended up with a muddy mess that took forever to get the moisture out of the mix once it hit the ground. The water just sits there and creates a weak bond at the bottom, especially if you've got any clay in the soil like we do out here. I've had better luck just working faster with a retarder added to the truck and keeping a mist on the surface while finishing. Jerry means well, but that trick doesn't play the same way in the desert.

Heads up: those 'restored' vintage wool blazers on eBay might be poly blend fakes

I used to roll my eyes at the burn test thing but @sage_park6 being a fellow lighter-carrier makes me feel a lot better about it, especially after I got burned on a fake wool blazer too. You're right, that clean stitching is a dead giveaway every time.

Best day I ever had troubleshooting a 737 autopilot - zero maintenance write-ups for a whole shift

Wait, what exactly made this your best day though? Was it the satisfaction of finding a tricky gremlin on the first try, or was it more about the crew actually following up and acknowledging your work? I love a clean shift with no write-ups, but sometimes the real win is figuring out some weird intermittent issue that's been driving everyone crazy for weeks.
