Hot take: My old instructor was wrong about mixing developer for color corrections
She always said to use a 20 volume developer for every single color fix, no matter what. I followed that for a year until a client came in with a major banding issue from a box dye. I tried her method and it barely lifted, so I switched to 30 volume on a small test section and it worked perfectly. Has anyone else had to unlearn a strict rule from training that just didn't hold up in the real world?

Oh man, that reminds me of my own training disasters. I once followed a rule about mixing so strictly I turned a client's hair into straw. @felixw68 is right, sometimes you just gotta learn from your own mess.
