State board written test vs. what we actually do all day, who's right?
I was looking at my state board prep book last Tuesday and saw it still lists wet styling and finger waves as core skills, but I've done maybe 2 of those in the last 5 years while dealing with 30 color corrections a month. The test seems to focus on old school technique, yet my clients pay for lived-in color and blowouts that barely show up in the curriculum. Do you think we should push for the exam to match modern salon reality, or is the traditional foundation still worth memorizing for newbies?

The old school stuff feels like a hazing ritual at this point. Maybe keep a little of it, but the test should match what we actually get paid to do.
