Showerthought: my 40 hour Stardew save almost died because I forgot one thing about cloud saves
Last Tuesday my laptop fan started grinding and then the screen just went black in the middle of a rainy day in my Year 3 farm. I had 40 hours in that save, plus a full greenhouse of ancient fruit that took me two in game years to build up. I panicked and did the dumbest thing first, which was hitting the power button over and over like that would fix a dead motherboard. The repair shop on my side of town quoted $280 just to look at it, so I told them to hold off and tried pulling the drive myself with a $12 USB adapter. Here is the tip part: my saves were not in the game folder I thought they were, because the game syncs to the cloud and keeps the real files in a hidden app data spot on Windows. I copied the wrong folder first, launched the game, and stared at a brand new farm with one sad parsnip. After about an hour of digging through forum posts I found the right path and got everything back, ancient fruit included. If you play on PC, do yourself a favor and back up the app data save folder to a flash drive tonight, not the folder that shows up when you search the game name. Has anyone else here lost a long save to something dumb like this, and did you ever get it back?
