Back in my early days, crane ops learned by doing. Today, it's all classroom and sims. Which way actually prepares you for the real deal?

Did they program the simulator for the guy waving his arms wrong?

During a VR demo at a conference last year, the avatar's hands would phase through objects whenever you waved. They'd coded the collision detection to ignore fast movements. It was funny until someone tried to high-five a virtual wall.

Yeah, that "program the simulator wrong" idea is exactly what happened to my friend. His VR setup had a glitch where fast hand movements would phase through objects. Like @cameron_rivera said, they'd adjusted the collision detection to ignore quick motions. He was playing a game where you need to block incoming shots, and his hands just passed through them. He ended up getting hit in the face virtually because the game thought he wasn't blocking. They had to patch it later to fix the timing checks.
