I always lumped the anti two block and the LMI together in my head like they did the same job, just two systems for one problem. Last Tuesday we were setting a 4,200 lb HVAC unit on a roof off Dale Mabry in Tampa, and the LMI was reading fine the entire pick, no warnings, good chart numbers. What I did not pay attention to was the hook block getting close to the boom tip on the way up, and the anti two block started alarming before the LMI even blinked. Turns out the LMI watches the load and radius against the chart, but the anti two block is watching the block and the boom tip, two totally separate jobs. My old foreman used to say 'the LMI pays the bills, the two block saves your life' and I never really got what he meant until that morning. If you are running a rig with both systems, do you double check the two block setup separately during your walk around, or do you just trust the alarm to catch it?
