Stop trusting the load chart without checking the boom angle
I watched a guy on site last Thursday nearly tip a 100 tonner because he read the chart at 80 degrees, but the actual angle was 74. The chart lied to him, his level indicator was off by 6 degrees. How often do you guys verify your boom angle against a physical inclinometer before a pick?

That boom angle thing is kinda tricky though... the chart is only right if the sensor is calibrated right, and those things drift over time. Most guys just trust the digital readout without ever checking it against a real bubble level.
Just a heads up, a lot of cranes have the angle sensor mounted on the boom heel, so if the boom is slightly bent or the pin has wear, it throws the whole reading off. Worth checking with a cheap physical protractor on the side of the boom, not just the cab display.
