Talking to a rigger about load charts made me feel like a rookie again

I was chatting with this old rigger in Odessa after a job last Tuesday, and he mentioned he never trusts the chart on the cab screen. He said he still does the math by hand on a grease-stained notepad before every lift, even simple ones. I told him I've been relying on the electronic readout for 4 years and never second guessed it. He just laughed and said 'the screen can lie to you, but the pen can't.' Made me question my whole setup, has anyone else gone back to manual calcs after a close call?
