Rant: I paid $180 for a writing coach and she told me to write worse drafts
I signed up for a month of coaching back in March because my drafts kept dying around page four. The coach charged $180 for four sessions and gave me one rule that stuck: turn off spellcheck and just barf the scene onto the page, fix nothing. First week I wrote 900 words in 40 minutes, which never happens for me. By week three I had 6,000 words of a messy draft that at least had a beginning, middle, and end. Now I do all my rough stuff in a plain text file with no red squiggles yelling at me. What dumb tricks do you use to keep yourself from editing while you draft?
