Wrote a scene at a coffee shop that shifted my whole drafting style
I was stuck on chapter four, so I parked at a Starbucks in Portland and just watched people for an hour. One guy kept checking his watch but never ordered, and that tiny detail became the core of my character's nervous habit. Since then, I start every draft by writing one real-life observation instead of a plot outline, and the mess feels way more alive. Anyone else pull details from random places like that?

Honestly, outlines keep me honest. Watching strangers just makes my plot drift.
