Back in 2018, I'd spend hours trying to force a prompt to work.

I'd sit there with a blank doc, trying to make some vague idea about a 'mysterious forest' into a full story and just get stuck. Then I read a post on this sub about starting with a specific object, like 'a rusted key found in a coat from a thrift store in Portland.' Now I always begin with one concrete detail and build out from there. Does anyone else have a tiny trick like that that just clicks for them?

That's not really a trick, it's just how writing works. You need a starting point.

I've seen so many writing advice threads that treat it like rocket science. Maybe we're overcomplicating what's basically just putting words down. Not every sentence needs a grand plan behind it. Sometimes you just start typing and see what happens.
