I deleted 43 half-finished story drafts and my prompt list finally started working
Last Tuesday I went through my drafts folder and counted 43 stories where I only wrote the opening scene and gave up. I realized the issue was that I kept picking prompts that only gave me a cool image, not a problem for a character to solve. So I rewrote my whole prompt list to force a who, a want, and an obstacle in one line each, and now I've actually finished 3 shorts in 9 days. Instead of "a lighthouse in a storm" it's "a keeper who hates the sea has to save a boat." What's your go to trick for a prompt that actually carries you past page one?
