Thought writing prompts about someone else's photo was a waste until I tried 1 with my grandma's kitchen
I always skipped photo-based prompts because I figured they were lazy, just describe what you see. Then my writing group in Akron gave us a prompt to write 200 words from a random photo of a messy kitchen counter, and I picked one with a chipped mug and a stack of bills. I ended up writing about a guy hiding a shutoff notice from his wife, and it turned into the first short story I've finished in 2 years. Now I keep a folder of 15 photos on my phone for when I get stuck. What's a prompt type you used to skip that actually worked for you?
So you went from "photo prompts are lazy" to hoarding 15 pics on your phone like a doomsday prepper of inspiration. Guess the shutoff notice story really got you huh. Next thing you know you'll be writing a novel about a grocery list.
