Hot take: a sticky note on a monitor in Louisville stopped a scam that 3 emails could not
Two years ago I was visiting my parents in Louisville and my dad got a call from "Microsoft" saying his PC had a virus, and he actually had his credit card out on the desk ready to read the numbers. I grabbed the phone and hung up, and he was mad at me for a solid 20 minutes because the guy had been so nice and had his "employee ID" ready. What finally got through to him was a $2 pack of sticky notes I bought at a Walgreens, and we wrote "NOBODY FROM ANY COMPANY WILL EVER CALL ABOUT YOUR COMPUTER" on one and stuck it right on his monitor bezel. He called me 6 weeks later laughing because he got another one of those calls and read the note out loud to the guy before hanging up. Does anyone else have a low tech trick like that for older family members?
