My password manager epiphany happened after 12 years of sticky notes
Back in 2008 I started writing every password in a spiral notebook at my desk in Austin. I thought it was safe because nobody else touched that notebook, but last spring my cat knocked it behind the file cabinet and I panicked for a whole weekend. That's when I realized the real issue wasn't the notebook, it was that I had zero backup plan and every login for my bank, email, and work VPN lived in one physical spot. My wake-up call came when my coworker asked me for a reset code and I had to dig through three drawers just to find the right page. Now I use a local password manager with a hardware key, but I still catch myself checking for a pen first. Anyone else carry over old habits from the pre-manager days, or was I the only one living like it was 1998?
