The library in Ann Arbor keeps their public PCs on a 15 minute reset and it finally clicked why
I was at the downtown library in Ann Arbor over the weekend and noticed a little countdown clock in the corner of every public computer screen. A staff member explained that each machine wipes everything and reboots every 15 minutes, so nothing you type or download sticks around. At first I figured that would be annoying, but then it hit me how much that kills keyloggers and saved passwords left behind. It also means the next person can't snoop on your session or grab files you forgot to delete. I started doing something similar on my own laptop, a guest browser profile that clears cookies and history when I close it. Does anyone here run a locked down browser setup like that, or do you just use private mode and call it good?
That 15 minute wipe reminds me of hotel key cards that stop working after checkout, they just assume you don't need anything to stick around. Same idea shows up in gym lockers too, day use only so nobody leaves their junk for the next guy.
