Just realized my local library's seed swap is the best free win I found this week
Went to the one at the branch on 5th Street in Portland and grabbed three tomato varieties plus some basil, all for zero dollars. Has anyone else swapped seeds there and actually gotten stuff to sprout, or am I just lucky so far?

That "free win" feeling fades fast if the seeds don't come up, trust me. I've swapped at that same 5th Street branch and most of it sprouted fine, but I learned to check the packets for dates because some donations are old. Your basil might be the easiest of the bunch, it grows like a weed if you give it sun. For the tomatoes, don't plant all three varieties at once, do a couple in pots first to see what actually wakes up. And if anything fizzles, just know it's not you, seed swaps are a gamble but a cheap one.
