Just realized the library on 5th has a whole shelf where people leave notes in the books, and I can't decide if that's sweet or annoying
I went to the downtown library on 5th street last Tuesday to return a stack of books that was two weeks overdue, and while I was waiting in line I noticed a little cart near the front desk labeled "book chat." Turns out people leave sticky notes inside the books with their thoughts, like one I opened had a note that just read "this chapter dragged, skip to page 90" in purple ink. Half of me thinks it's a nice little community thing, like a slow message board made of paper, and it actually got me to finish a history book I'd been stuck on for a month. But the other half of me got annoyed when someone wrote in pen right on page 12 of a novel, and the librarian told me they can't really stop it since the notes help some folks pick what to read. I stood there for a good 10 minutes going back and forth with myself about it. So my question is, if you saw a stranger's notes in a library book, would you be happy for the company or ticked off that they marked it up? I honestly still can't pick a side.
