Question about replacing a turbo on a 6.7 Powerstroke, went with a reman unit and it's been a headache
Had a customer's 2015 F-250 with the turbo making that awful metal-on-metal noise last week. The choice was a brand new OEM turbo for $2,100 or a 'certified reman' from a big parts house for $1,400. Went with the reman to save them some cash, installed it Friday. By Monday, it was back on the lift with a massive oil leak from the center cartridge. The shop that built it is giving me the runaround on the warranty claim, saying it was an install error. Has anyone else had a bad run with reman turbos lately, or should I just start pushing new units only?

What did you expect from a "certified" paperweight? Those places always blame the installer first, it's their only move. I wouldn't trust a reman from a parts store to hold air in a tire. You learned the expensive way that their warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Just bite the bullet and sell the new units, it saves the comeback headache.

Ugh, been there. That warranty runaround is classic. I stopped using those big box remans after the third one leaked oil right out of the box. Now I only use the OEM new or a reman from a local diesel specialist shop, even if it costs a bit more. Their cores are better and they actually stand behind the work.
