The fleet boss who made me toss my torque wrench habits
Had a guy in Tyler, TX pull me aside last spring after I torqued his 2020 Freightliner wheel nuts to spec. He said "son, that book number ain't worth a damn when the rims are corroded," then had me back them off and re-torque to 50 ft-lbs higher while the hubs were hot. I thought he was full of it until I saw three of his rigs still rolling with zero cracked studs at 90k miles. Any other techs got a fleet manager whose rule of thumb beat the manual?

90k miles ain't proof, just luck so far.
