Unpopular opinion: a 30 year diesel vet in Bakersfield called my torque wrench habits sloppy and he was dead right
He watched me rattle down a head bolt to spec and said 'you're reading the wrench, not feeling the bolt, that's why you'll be back in here at 60k,' and sure enough the same truck came back 8 months later with a weeping gasket.
Wait, isn't 60k on a head gasket kind of normal even when you do everything right? Sounds like the old guy just got lucky calling it, and now you're giving him credit for seeing the future. I've seen plenty of bolts torqued by feel that still blew gaskets, so I'm not sold on this one.
