Vent: Just found out Fleet managers are paying $12,000 a year for oil changes on a single truck

I was at a meeting with a logistics guy last week in Nashville and he showed me their spreadsheet. One Class 8 truck costs them $12,000 annually just for oil and filter changes if they follow the OEM schedule to the letter. That number blew my mind because I always thought it was maybe half that. He said they started switching to extended drain intervals with oil analysis and cut it to under $4,000. Who else has seen numbers like this and actually made the switch?

Is this one of those things where saving money means actually changing how you do things?

Depends on what you mean by "changing how you do things". sometimes saving money means just buying the exact same stuff but cheaper. Like I still buy name brand ketchup but I get it at the dollar store or use a coupon. The real savings kick in when you switch to store brand beans though. That's not changing your life, it's just swapping a label. So no, you don't have to overhaul your whole routine to save a few bucks.
